COACH DARYN
A compassionate guide on your life’s journey
Are you often complimented for your strength, generosity or creativity? Are you a seeker who believes in yourself enough that you won’t give up until you reach your goals?

But are you struggling with recurring issues that hamper or stress you, causing you frustration or feelings of burnout?

You are not alone.

I am here to work with you using coaching and counseling techniques and to deeply listen with openness, nurturing, and encouragement. Helping you uncover your wishes and fears, I ask you questions to access information about yourself that you may not have been aware of and allow you to bring your hopes and dreams into focus with a plan.

If you decide to work with me, we will work together as a team to discover and dissolve barriers that keep you from true happiness.

SPECIALTIES

LIFE TRANSITIONS
As a psychotherapist for over 30 years, I help clients manage their challenges, new work situations, parenting, adapting to different cultures and living in the US, and creating new life practices.
Working part-time at UCSF’s Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic I am wholly engaged in the work of supporting mothers-to-be as they transition their families and lives during an experience that has much joy but also a great deal of stress and anxiety.
COMMUNICATIONS
Whether you wish to exchange information to help facilitate communicating with a partner, family member or even a boss, I help you figure out what needs to be said and how to say it so that the best results are achieved. We can get overwhelmed by feelings or by fear and either shut down or express ourselves in ways that keep us from what we wish to have happen. Some of these patterns may be longstanding and others may be new. Either way, it is helpful and powerful to identify them. “Daryn provides a thoughtful analysis and makes reasoned recommendations which take into account the pieces, parts, and the whole, including what we do not see.” (J.B.)

THE ARTISTIC PROCESS
As a photographer and artist I intimately understand the challenges and hurdles of the artistic process. Through my intuitive questioning and listening, I can help you with your artistic development and expression.
EMOTIONAL ASPECTS OF CHRONIC ILLNESS
As someone with diabetes, I understand living with a chronic condition from the inside out. Taking care of yourself requires not just managing your physical condition; you can provide yourself with self-care and improved well being by meeting with me and offsetting the emotional wear and tear of a chronic condition.
I have been working with the diabetes community for over twenty years. My work includes helping persons with type I and type II diabetes navigate the challenges of living with a chronic illness. Working individually, with family members and support groups. I have also been an educator and facilitator at Mt. Zion Hospital and John Muir Hospital and led groups on living with diabetes.

FAQS
WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING OUR FIRST SESSION ?
From our first session, this will be a collaborative process. I will listen to you and try to understand what you are looking for and I will be honest with you about whether I think I can help. After this, it is up to you to let me know if you want us to work together. The clients I have worked with tell me that I listen compassionately and ask insightful questions drawing out important information and encouraging and challenging my clients to shift their perspective to make things work better for themselves. I often find that what occurs is an organic process and I am honored to be a part of your journey.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE WE GOING TO HAVE TOGETHER?
My work with clients has ranged from a single session to weekly meetings for an extended time period. Ultimately, the number of sessions is up to you and we can discuss this at any point during our work together.
HOW FREQUENTLY DO WE MEET?
Just like in everything that I do with clients, we will figure out together the frequency of our meetings that work best for you. Typically, I meet with clients once a week, especially during our first few sessions.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF IT'S WORKING?
Most of my clients report feeling like they've shifted within the first few sessions. I view each session as an important opportunity to work with you, build relationship and get things done.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
My current fee for psychotherapy services is $160 for an in person 50-minute session. I am able to charge less for my tele mental health work - $125 for individuals and $150 for couples. Periodically I am able to offer a sliding scale fee, based on need.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
I am not currently on any insurance panels. I can provide you with an invoice that you can in turn submit to your insurance company.
IS IT CONFIDENTIAL?
Client confidentiality is the bedrock for our work together. In only a few rare circumstances do state and federal laws require disclosure and we can discuss this in greater length when we begin working together.
